ProFungi



The ProFungi project aims to produce a high-quality protein from agricultural plant residues using fungal fermentation, to be used as a component in animal feed. The project focuses on using leek leaves, a by-product of the vegetable processing industry. Although some initiatives already valorize leek leaves for niche human food applications, their impact on total volumes remains limited.
In the project ProFungi, VDS, Biolynx and RELEAF, with the support of the Departement Landbouw en Visserij, will develop a process for leek residue valorisation.
RELEAF will process leek to extract a qualitative medium for microbial fermentation.
